My interest for some years has been early medieval copper alloy artefacts initially from viking age England. This originated as a thesis topic for my first masters degree at York University whereby I attempted to contribute to the understanding of Anglo-Scandinavian metal-detector finds, geographically, along the east coast of England.
In 2011, I undertook a second masters degree here at Leiden where my interest turned to the early medieval metal finds from the terps of Frisia. This involved identifying and overcoming the limitations of Hand-held XRF technology, which once completed opened up a much larger research project as a PhD candidate.
