Barbara Oosterwijk received her RMA at the University of Amsterdam in 2012.  Her thesis focused on the interpretation of the earliest forms of figurative art from the Upper Paleolithic. Her interests in Archaeology mainly go out to the connections between the landscape and religious activities, the connections between prominent places in the landscape and ritual (Geomythology) and mural art found in any region of the world. During her studies she went on exchange to the University of Iceland to study volcanology and Viking mythology, and Montana State University in Bozeman to do research at the Native American department.

Barbara is the secretary of ARCHON, the Dutch inter-university research and graduate school for archaeology, which united staff members, RMA and PhD students from the University of Amsterdam, VU University Amsterdam, the University of Groningen, the University of Leiden and the State Service for Cultural Heritage.
