Joanne Mol is a lecturer in geology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University, the Netherlands. She was born in 1968 in Dreischor, studied Quaternary geology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and wrote her PhD thesis on the effects of climate changes on rivers. In Leiden she teaches geoarchaeology, quaternary geology and natural site formation processes. Her research focuses on geoarchaeology, which involves palaeolandscape reconstruction and the study of natural site formation processes. Region of interest: Europe, with emphasis on The Netherlands. She is currently involved in the prospection of the former airport Valkenburg (c. 800 ha), near Leiden, in which she deals with landscape archaeology and coastal dynamics in relation to occupation history.
