NWO programme ‘PhD Graduations in the Humanities’ is OPEN for 2017! The official call 2017 and procedures will be published in December, but basic information is already available! Don't miss this oppurtunity!

The NWO programme ‘PhD Graduations in the Humanities’ is open for 2017. The official call 2017 and procedures will be published in December, but the 2016 link is informative since procedures will most probably not be altered. However, make sure to check the guidelines as soon as the call 2017 is online.

Contact your supervisor(s) asap if you have a PhD proposal you would like to submit.

Procedure and deadlines:

There are two pre-selection rounds: 

(1) by the Faculty of Archaeology Research Committee (Dec. 2016)

(2) by the Science Committee Humanities/Archaeology (January 2017).  Only proposals selected in this 2nd round can be submitted to NWO.

Archaeology may submit a maximum of three proposals to the pre-selection round by the Science Committee Humanities/Archaeology. The Faculty Research Committee will assess only proposals that are conform NWO- guidelines.

The Top Three ranking will be passed on for approval to the Faculty Board.

Deadline submission of proposals for the first Archaeology pre-selection round: December 1, 13.00h.  Submit your proposal to the Research Committee Secretary.

Applications submitted for the pre-selection round at the Faculty of Archaeology should comprise:

  • a full proposal in NWO-format and CV in English (proposal according to guidelines specified in the 2016 Call for Proposals; filling in nr. 13, the budget, is not yet needed). Note that there is a NWO-format for the CV as well.

  • email (Dutch or English) of supervisor (‘promotor’) declaring willingness as supervisor for candidate & project.

The outcome of the Archaeology pre-selection round will be communicated to the candidates December 15, 2016.

Monday January 9: deadline for submission of the proposal to the Science Committee Faculty of Humanities/Archaeology (submission to ).
